ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF's men's soccer team will get its 2008 season underway this weekend at the Ohio State Bert and Iris Wolstein Classic in Columbus, Ohio. The Knights meet Penn State in the opener Friday evening at 5:00 p.m., before squaring off against the host Buckeyes Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
"It will be nice to get the season underway," second-year head coach Bryan Cunningham said. "The guys have been working extremely hard this preseason to get prepared and come together as a team. We have two quality opponents that will provide a good test to see where we are early in the season."
Cunningham's squad went 4-12-2 in 2007, his first season at the helm of the Knights' program. Senior co-captains Ryan Roushandel and Chris Andaur lead a young squad with 18 newcomers into the season. Roushandel was recently named to the 2008 Preseason All-Conference USA squad. As a junior, the forward led the Knights with eight goals scored.
The Knights are 16-12-5 all-time in season openers. The games will mark UCF's first-ever meetings with both Penn State and Ohio State in men's soccer.
