UCF Women's Soccer Drops Exhibition Match to USF, 1-0

Aug. 16, 2008

TAMPA, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - In its only exhibition match of the preseason, the UCF women's soccer team lost a 1-0 decision to USF in Tampa Saturday. Goalkeepers Aline Reis and Lynzee Lee split time in net, while the Bulls scored the only goal in the first five minutes.

Even though the Knights came up on the short end, their exhibition record the previous two years did not indicate how those seasons evolved. In 2006, UCF went 1-1-0 in two scrimmages but finished with an 11-6-2 overall mark and a 7-1-1 record in Conference USA. Last season, the Black and Gold had a 0-1-1 preseason record only to advance to the NCAA Tournament Second Round and completed the campaign at 15-4-4 with a share of the C-USA regualar-season crown.

Two newcomers made starts for UCF as junior Emily Maynard and freshman Katie Jackson saw their first action in a Knight uniform. They helped UCF outshoot USF 10-7 and post a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Knights also committed just nine fouls compared to the Bulls' 18.

UCF will have a week left to prepare for the 2008 regular season opener. Head coach Amanda Cromwell's squad will travel to Tallahassee to meet No. 4 Florida State Friday at 7 p.m.
