ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - For members of the UCF football team, the school's marketing campaign for the 2008 campaign is more than just a slogan. Knights like senior linebacker Cory Hogue believe that the marketing plan's signature line, "Champions Play Here," applies directly to the team as it enters its second campaign at Bright House Networks Stadium.
"I like it. We are the Conference USA champions," Hogue said. "We are finally getting our name out there. You always like to see that."
The marketing plan, which debuted in June, includes advertisements, posters, schedule cards and content on UCF's web site, www.UCFathletics.com. The purpose of the campaign is to raise awareness about UCF's season-ticket packages.
Several billboards in Orlando are the most visible part of the plan. The billboards, which are rotating among five locations, consist of a photo of senior safety Sha'reff Rashad, the "Champions Play Here" line and ticket information.
The majority of the billboards will be taken down prior to UCF's season opener at home against South Carolina State on Aug. 30. The billboard on State Road 408 East near Goldenrod Road will remain until the season concludes in November.
Rashad is not the only Knight who is part of the promotion. Hogue and five other seniors - cornerback Joe Burnett, offensive lineman Patrick Brown, cornerback Johnell Neal, wide receiver Rocky Ross and safety Jason Venson - are all featured in the marketing plan. Venson appears on a splash page on www.UCFathletics.com and Brown has been featured in some print advertisements.
UCF had a memorable first campaign at Bright House Networks Stadium a year ago. The Knights won 10 contests, claimed the C-USA title and participated in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.
