ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced this week its annual all-region teams and academic honors, and UCF was well represented. A school record eight Knights were named CRCA National Scholar-Athletes, while senior Krystina Sarff (Valrico, Fla.) grabbed a spot on the CRCA All-South Region First Team.
The eight CRCA National Scholar-Athletes eclipsed the previous program mark of six which was set in both 2006 and 2007. To be selected as a scholar-athlete, rowers must have at least a 3.5 grade-point average for her career. The 2008 UCF members include: seniors Laura Bacci (Winter Springs, Fla.), Caitlin Pauls (St. Catharines, Ontario), Erin Riegel (Columbia, Md.), Anne Marie Rossi (Tampa, Fla.), Sarff and Taylor Wiatt (Jacksonville, Fla.) and sophomores Michelle Carter (Tampa, Fla.) and Hillary Trupp (Tampa, Fla.).
For Sarff, she completed her career by being selected as a CRCA National Scholar-Athlete all four seasons. Bacci, Pauls and Riegel picked up their third academic honor, and it was the second time Wiatt earned the accolade.
Along with her work in the classroom, Sarff was tabbed for the All-South Region First Team for the third-consecutive year. The two-time All-American joined a squad that featured four members from Virginia, two from Clemson and Tennessee and one each from Louisville, Miami and North Carolina. The regional awards recognize the outstanding performances of rowers from each of the five Division I regions, organized into first and second-team selections.
