May 19, 2008

NEW ORLEANS, La. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF baseball team arrived in New Orleans Monday for the 2008 Entergy Conference USA Championship and it already received some good news. Junior left fielder Colin Arnold (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) and redshirt sophomore pitcher Mitch Houck (Weston, Fla.) were both named to the C-USA All-Academic Team the league office announced.

The two selections for UCF marked the second-straight year that a pair of Knights earned spots on the squad.

Arnold has shined in his first campaign with the Black and Gold. A transfer from Daytona Beach Community College, Arnold owns a .326 batting average with a team-high 17 doubles. The left fielder also has banged out 73 hits, scored 47 runs and driven in 37. Arnold stands at 14-for-16 in stolen bases while playing in all but one game in 2008. In the classroom, the business administration major has a 3.58 grade-point average.

Houck has been a fixture in the starting rotation all year long. The lefty has made 12 starts with one complete-game for a 4-3 record. Houck, who earned a medical redshirt in 2007, has struck out 71 batters in 56.0 innings. He also was part of UCF's second no-hitter in program history when he went 7.0 hitless frames vs. Wagner March 17. Houck completed the year with a 3.27 GPA while majoring in interpersonal/organizational communication.

Arnold, Houck and the Knights are slated to open the C-USA Championship as the No. 7 seed, and will take on No. 2 Southern Miss Wednesday at 5 p.m. ET at Tulane University.
