Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Breanne Javier (Castaic, Calif.) posted two hits and a RBI, while Ashley Van Ryn (Atlanta, Ga.) added two hits of her own to lead the UCF softball team to a 2-1 win over Bethune-Cookman (12-29) Tuesday afternoon at the UCF Softball Complex. With the win, the Black and Gold improve to 33-15 on the season.

Ashleigh Cole (Pace, Fla.) picked up the win in the circle for the Knights, allowing only one run on four hits, while striking out five and walking one to move her record to 12-6 on the season.

"Bethune-Cookman played a great game tonight," head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie said. "We were fortunate to take a win from them. As a team, we definately need to improve our offensive game if we want to come out on top tomorrow against Florida State."

The Knights scored both of their runs in the bottom of the third inning after Tiffany Lane (Moreno Valley, Calif.) posted a lead-off single, stole second and third base and scored on a RBI single by Javier. Marquita Council (Orlando, Fla.), who reached earlier with a walk, scored on a RBI groundout by Lexi Gresham (Fresno, Calif.) to close out the inning and give the Knights a 2-0 lead.

Bethune-Cookman cut the UCF lead in half in the top of the fourth when Holly Bussey scored on a RBI single from Anush Mooradian, but the Knights' defense kept the Wildcats in check through the next three innings to hold on to the one-run lead.

UCF stranded eight runners on base in the contest, compared to only five by the Wildcats.

Join the Knights Wednesday night at the UCF Softball Complex when they entertain Florida State in their annual `Pack the House' event. Game one of the doubleheader is slated for 4 p.m., with admission free for all fans.
