Suh, Johnson Lead Knights to Impressive Finish In Texas

AUSTIN, Texas (www.ucfathletics.com) - Senior Giwon Suh (Orlando, Fla./Olympia) and junior David Johnson (Palm Bay, Fla./Melbourne) both recorded top-eight finishes to lead the 17th-ranked UCF men's golf team to an impressive fifth-place finish at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate on Tuesday. Suh tied for fourth at 216 (+3), while Johnson recorded a 217 (+4) to tie for eighth at the 15-team event at the University of Texas Golf Club.

The event featured 10 of the nation's top-50 squads. The Knights (885, +33) registered a 298 (+14) in the final round and finished the tournament ahead of several ranked teams, including No. 1 Alabama.

In the final round on Tuesday, Suh carded an even-par 71. The top-five finish was the first of his career.

Johnson posted a two-over 73 to conclude the tournament. Junior Greg Forest (Palm City, Fla./Martin County) recorded his third-straight top-20 finish as he registered a three-round total of 220 (+7) to tie for 17th. Both Forest and Johnson have placed in the top 10 in four of the Knights' events in 2007-08.

"Giwon Suh played great this week. He has loads of talent and has really improved over the years," said UCF head coach Nick Clinard. "David played well and had another solid tournament."

Host Texas claimed the team title with an 868 (+16). The Longhorns were followed by No. 5 Oklahoma State (873, +16).

UCF finished one stroke ahead of top-ranked Alabama (886, +34). The Crimson Tide also posted a 298 on Tuesday to place seventh.

The Knights finished in a tie in the team standings with Texas Tech. Both squads concluded the tournament two strokes behind No. 14 Auburn. The Tigers placed fourth with an 883 (+31).

UCF sophomore Mike Stern (Miami, Fla./Killian) tied for 61st at 233 (+20) and fellow sophomore Nico Donaldson (Windermere, Fla./Olympia) finished in 76th with a three-round total of 242 (+29).

Only two players in the field finished the event below par. Bobby Hudson (208, -5) of Texas took medalist honors.

UCF's next event is slated to begin on April 13 as the Knights will compete at the UK Bluegrass Invitational in Lexington, Ky.
