AUSTIN, Texas (www.ucfathletics.com) - Facing some of the nation's top teams, the No. 17 UCF men's golf team is in fifth after two rounds of play at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate. Play at the three-round event began Monday with two rounds at the University of Texas Golf Club.
Three UCF players are among the top-12 in the individual standings, led by junior David Johnson (Palm Bay, Fla./Melbourne). He carded an even-par 71 in the second round and is tied for 10th at 144 (+2).
The Knights posted a 587 (+19) on Monday and are just one stroke behind 14th-ranked Auburn. The Tigers sit in fourth. Top-ranked Alabama registered a 588 (+20) and is in sixth behind the Knights.
The event will conclude on Tuesday with 18 holes. The tournament features 10 of the top-50 squads in the country.
UCF senior Giwon Suh (Orlando, Fla./Olympia) and junior Greg Forest (Palm City, Fla./Martin County) are tied with one other player for 12th (145, +3). Forest recorded a one-under 70 in the second round. Suh began the event with a 73 (+1).
Sophomore Mike Stern (Miami, Fla./Killian) is tied for 54th (154, +12) and fellow sophomore Nico Donaldson (Windermere, Fla./Olympia) is tied for 76th after posting a 163 (+21).
Fifth-ranked Oklahoma State (577, +9) leads the tournament. Charlie Holland of Texas is the individual leader at 141 (-1).
