ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF track and field team is back in action, traveling to its second of three consecutive outdoor meets contested within the state of Florida, as the Knights head for Gainesville, Fla., to participate in the Pepsi Florida Relays. The two-day event, which begins Friday, is being hosted by the University of Florida at Percy Beard Track at James G. Pressly Stadium.

Activities get underway at 12:35 p.m. Friday with the 100-meter hurdles and a handful of the field events, while Saturday's action commences at 11:30 a.m. Live statistics for both days will be available at www.gatorzone.com.

Participating teams in the meet include: Akron, Albany, Bethune-Cookman, Boston, Charlotte, Clemson, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Delaware State, East Tennessee State, Embry-Riddle, host Florida, Florida Atlantic, Florida A&M, Florida International, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Southern, Jacksonville, Johnson & Wales, Kennesaw State, Long Island, Maryland, Miami, Norfolk State, Northeastern, North Florida, Ole Miss, Savannah State, South Carolina State, Tampa, Tennessee, Tulane, USF, Villanova, Webber, Western Carolina, Western Kentucky, West Florida and Youngstown State.

"We are looking forward to a great meet this week," UCF head coach Caryl Smith Gilbert said. "We are excited about going up to the University of Florida this weekend. Our goal for this week is to achieve as many regional-qualifying marks as possible, break school records and set personal bests. We want to improve our times from our last meet in Miami and we want to have fun."

The Knights are coming off a strong showing at the Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables, Fla., two weeks ago to open the outdoor campaign. Junior middle distance runner Shantile Blackburn (Brooklyn, N.Y.) broke the school's outdoor 800-meter record to highlight the meet. Blackburn, who also holds UCF's indoor school record in the 800-meter run, finished in a time of 2:10.73 two weeks ago to shatter the six-year-old record.

Blackburn's school record in the 800-meter run marked the 13th school record set this season by the Knights under the direction of Smith Gilbert and the first record to fall during the 2008 outdoor campaign.

Sophomore sprinter Feyisara Adaramola (Bronx, N.Y.) broke her personal-best time in the 100-meter dash at the Hurricane Invitational, while distance runners Shannon Kelly (Tampa, Fla.) and Allison Palmer (Oviedo, Fla.) each notched PRs in the 5,000-meter run.
