El Paso, Texas (www.ucfathletics.com) - Allison Kime (Brandon, Fla.) tied the UCF program record and her career-high mark for strikeouts in seven innings, fanning 15, to help the UCF softball team to a 4-3 victory over UTEP (25-18, 6-9 C-USA) Sunday afternoon at Helen of Troy Field.

Kime (21-9) struck out every batter she faced in the contest at least once, with the exception of a pinch hitter, giving her 249 strikeouts on the season.

Hillary Barrow (Miami, Fla.) posted two hits and scored a run for the Knights, while Tiffany Lane (Moreno Valley, Calif.) had a triple and a run scored and Breanne Javier (Castaic, Calif.) recorded a double and two RBI.

UTEP scored the game's first run on a double and a single through the left side in the first inning, before the Knights answered back in the second inning with a run of their own. Barrow walked and moved to second on a ground out, setting up an Ashley Van Ryn (Atlanta, Ga.) RBI single to left centerfield.

UCF took its first lead of the weekend in the third inning after Marquita Council (Orlando, Fla.) reached on a single through the right side and Javier knocked her in from first base on a double up the middle of the infield.

The Knights' lead didn't last too long, as the Miners plated two runs in the bottom of the inning after loading the bases with no outs. Kime struck out the next two batters, but Simone Holland hit a single up the middle, plating two runs, before Kime struck out her third victim of the frame.

UTEP's lead was erased by the Black and Gold in the fifth inning thanks to a triple by Lane and a passed ball issued by the Miners' starter, Stacie Townsend. Council touched first safely on a fielder's choice and advanced to third on Townsend's passed ball. Kime plated the speedy right fielder with a single over the third baseman's head to give the Knights a 4-3 advantage going into the bottom of the inning. The scored would hold up until the conclusion of the game, with Kime and the Knights' defense securing the win.

UCF returns home for a C-USA series with Memphis this weekend.
