AWENDAW, S.C. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Junior Greg Forest (Palm City, Fla./Martin County) finished seventh in the individual standings as the UCF men's golf team concluded play at the Hootie at Bulls Bay on Tuesday at tbe Bulls Bay Golf Club. The 18th-ranked Knights finished eighth at the 15-team tournament, which featured 11 of the top-50 squads in the nation.
The Knights posted a three-round total of 866 (+14). The team finished one stroke behind 13th-ranked Auburn.
Forest tied for seventh (211, -2). In the final round, he carded a two-under 69.
"Greg played well and continues to improve as a player every event. I am proud of him," said UCF head coach Nick Clinard. "The team played well today and showed some good things all three days. It is always nice to beat some teams that are ranked higher than us and it shows our guys that we can compete with anyone."
On Tuesday, the Knights recorded a team score of 284 (E). UCF finished ahead of four ranked squads, including No. 11 Duke and No. 14 Wake Forest.
UCF senior Giwon Suh (Orlando, Fla./Olympia) finished in a tie for 27th in the individual standings at 217 (+4). Junior David Johnson (Palm Bay, Fla./Melbourne) carded an even-par 71 on Tuesday to tie for 45th (221, +8).
Sophomore Nico Donaldson (Windermere, Fla./Olympia) recorded a one-over 72 in the final round. He tied for 59th at 225 (+12). Sophomore Mike Stern (Miami, Fla./Killian) also registered a 72 on Tuesday and finished in 71st (229, +16).
NC State (838, -13) claimed the team title and was followed by No. 15 South Carolina and No. 16 Clemson. Both teams tied for second at 850 (-2).
Matt Hill of NC State posted a nine-under 204 to take medalist honors.
The Knights' next tournament is slated for April 7-8. The team will head to Austin, Texas, to compete at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate.
