Men's Golf to Return to Action Sunday

March 22, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The 18th-ranked UCF men's golf team will return to action on Sunday for the first time in nearly a month when the Knights compete at the Hootie at Bulls Bay in Awendaw, S.C. The three-day event will be played at the Bulls Bay Golf Club and begins on Sunday.

The 54-hole tournament features 14 squads. Six of the teams competing at the event, including the Knights, are ranked in the top-20 nationally: Duke (11), Auburn (13), Wake Forest (14), South Carolina (15) and Clemson (16). College of Charleston is hosting the event.

Head coach Nick Clinard's Knights have not been in action since Feb. 26, when they claimed the team title at the UCF Rio Pinar Invitational in Orlando. UCF finished the tournament at 846 (-18), 12 strokes ahead of runner-up Wichita State.

Junior Greg Forest (Palm City, Fla./Martin County) and sophomore Mike Stern (Miami, Fla./Killian) shared medalist honors, both finishing at 205 (-11). As a result of their play, Forest and Stern were named Conference USA Co-Golfers of the Week on Feb. 27.

In addition to Forest and Stern, senior Giwon Suh (Orlando, Fla./Olympia), junior David Johnson (Palm Bay, Fla./Melbourne) and sophomore Nico Donaldson (Windermere, Fla./Olympia) will be in action for the Knights.

A year ago, Forest had a strong performance at the Hootie at Bulls Bay. He posted a 206 (-7) to tie for second. Four Knights finished in the top 30 and UCF placed fourth out of 15 squads at the event.
