Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF women's golf team returns to action this weekend at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic in Baton Rouge, La. The Knights will face a 17-team field that includes five teams that competed in the UCF Challenge that concluded on Tuesday.
The Knights will play with Mississippi State and the College of Charleston in Friday's opening round on the University Club Golf Course on the LSU campus. UCF will feature a line-up of junior May Tomimbang (Kissimmee, Fla.) in the No. 1 spot, freshman Jessy Tang (Miami, Fla.) in the No. 2 spot, sophomore Leigh Crosby (Athens, Ga.) in the No. 3 spot, junior Stephanie Connelly (Pasadena, Md.) in the No. 4 spot and Victoria Tomko (Lontzen, Belgium) in the No. 5 spot.
The 54-hole event will conclude on Sunday with the third and final round.
Connelly was the top finisher for the Knights at the UCF Challenge when she posted a three-round total of 220 (+4) to place in a tie for 31st. Her even-par score of 72 in the second round equaled Crosby's opening-round score for lowest in the tournament. Tomimbang tied for 36th in the event after rounds of 73 (+1), 75 (+3) and 73 (+1).
Wake Forest is the highest-ranked team in the field as the Demon Deacons are 10th in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index rankings. No. 13 Georgia and No. 14 Alabama are also in the top 25. UCF climbed to No. 44 in the standings following its tie for 14th last week in a field that featured 15 of the country's top 25 programs. The ranking is the highest for the Knights this season and in the two-plus seasons head coach Emilee Klein has been leading the team.
