Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF softball team nearly pulled off its biggest upset of the season Sunday night against No. 12 Michigan, but fell to the Wolverines, 6-1, Sunday evening at the UCF Softball Complex. The Knights held the Michigan squad scoreless through the first seven innings, before giving up six runs in the top of the eighth.

Breanne Javier (Castaic, Calif.) led the Black and Gold at the plate with a hit and a RBI, while three additional Knights posted a hit in the contest.

UCF had opportunities to score in the later innings, loading the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning with no outs, and following a Javier single to score Tiffany Lane (Moreno Valley, Calif.), loaded the bases again in the eighth. Overall, the Knights stranded 11 runners on base.

Lindsay Dean (Jacksonville, Fla.) was solid behind the plate, throwing out two Michigan base runners.

Allison Kime (Brandon, Fla.) suffered the loss in the game, giving up four earned runs on eight hits, striking out four. Her record now falls to 6-3 on the season.

In game one, UCF scored early, getting all the runs it needed in the second inning, plating two runners courtesy of a pair of walks and a pair of Drake miscues. Pinch runner Megan Murphy (Port Orange, Fla.) and catcher Cat Snapp (Niceville, Fla.) both crossed the plate for the Knights in the frame.

Drake cut the UCF lead in half after scoring a run in the third inning off a pair of walks and a single.

The Bulldogs threatened to win the game in the seventh inning, putting the go-ahead run in scoring position with two outs, but the UCF defense secured the victory

Ashleigh Cole (Pace, Fla.) earned the win in the circle for the Black and Gold, allowing only one run on four hits while striking out four. The sophomore moved her record to 3-3 on the season in the victory.

Cole, Marquita Council (Orlando, Fla.) and Snapp each registered a hit for the Knights.

The Knights will have the opportunity to avenge the loss Wednesday, when they entertain the Wolverines in a rematch at the UCF Softball Complex at 6 p.m.
