ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Prior to his team's game with Rice on Saturday, UCF head coach Kirk Speraw told the Knights that the meeting with the Owls was game one of a seven-contest season. Following UCF's 60-53 victory in Houston, Speraw's squad now has six games remaining in the regular campaign.
Following a wild day of action in Conference USA yesterday, the Knights now sit alone in fourth place in the league standings with a 6-4 mark. The top four teams at the end of the regular season receive a first-round bye at the C-USA Championship in March.
UCF's next game is set for Wednesday at home against East Carolina. The Knights are 13-11 overall.
Speraw wants his team to take some of the positives from the win over Rice - the squad shot 51.3 percent overall - and use that as a springboard for the rest of the season.
"We have to take this [win] and go back home and continue to get better. We have a lot to play for. We need to have some fun and take on the rest of the games."
Tip-off for the East Carolina game at the new UCF Arena is slated for 7 p.m. On Jan. 19, the visiting Knights recorded a 71-66 victory over East Carolina behind game-high 32 points from junior guard Jermaine Taylor (Tavares, Fla./Tavares).
