ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Some former UCF greats will be in attendance on Saturday as the Knights take on Houston in a key Conference USA matchup. For the first time, UCF is organizing a basketball alumni weekend.
The gathering begins on Friday evening with an event at the new UCF Arena. The weekend will give former Knights the opportunity to meet old teammates, tour UCF's new athletics facilities and most importantly for head coach Kirk Speraw, see the program's growth in person.
"This is an event that our coaching staff has really been looking forward to. We want to welcome many former players back to campus," said Speraw. "Our program has grown so much over the years and each and every former player was a part of that growth. We want to thank them for their contributions to the UCF basketball program."
Speraw and Misty Knight of the Golden Knights Club, who helped organize the weekend, hope that the event becomes an annual gathering.
The UCF men's basketball program is currently in its 39th season and 24th at the Division I level.
Speraw is in his 15th campaign with the Knights.
For more information about the event, former players should contact the GKC at mknight@athletics.ucf.edu or 407-882-1289.
Before facing Houston, UCF hosts UAB on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
UCF is 11-8 overall and 4-1 in Conference USA play in 2007-08.
The Knights have six home games remaining this year and the UCF Athletics Association is offering a pair of ticket deals. The C-USA Pack includes tickets to the remaining contests, which are all against C-USA foes, for $90.
The 3-Point Pack provides fans with tickets to games against UAB (Jan. 30), Houston (Feb. 2) and Rice (March 1) for $39. That package also includes a ticket to the UCF women's game versus East Carolina prior to the men's contest on Feb. 2.

Notes: In UCF's last four games, junior guard Jermaine Taylor (Tavares, Fla./Tavares) is averaging 27.5 points... During the 2005-06 campaign, the Knights did not have an overtime game. Last year, the squad played in five overtime contests. Through 18 games in 2007-08, four of the squad's contests have gone into extra sessions.
