UCFAA, Inc. to Hold Celebration for Female Athletes of All Ages in February

Dec. 30, 2007

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF Athletics Association, Inc. will celebrate the 22nd Annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day by holding a two-hour clinic staffed by UCF female student-athletes, coaches and trainers on Saturday, February 2nd at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex.

This year's theme for National Girls and Women in Sports Day is "All In."

The festivities begin at 2 p.m. and will feature meet-and-greets with UCF female student-athletes, coaches and administrators as well as individual team interactive areas. Lunch will be provided before the event culminates with the UCF women's basketball game vs. East Carolina tipping off at 5 p.m.

"We are very excited about the prospect of involving young women in our activities for National Girls and Women in Sports Day," said Jessica Reo, UCF's senior woman administrator. "Our student-athletes and coaches are looking forward to assisting the young women in the interactive area. This is a day that young girls may be exposed to sports that they have never seen, and we are thrilled about that possibility."

Pre-registration for the event begins January 1st with the first 20 kids to register receiving the opportunity to participate in a fan tunnel at the women's basketball game. Tickets are $10 per person and all registered participants will be eligible for a random drawing for two tickets to any UCF women's basketball game of choice and two tickets to any UCF softball game of choice. To register for the event or for additional information, please contact Bobby Lindsey at (407) 882-1596.

UCF's celebration is one of more than 1,000 taking place around the country to recognize National Girls and Women in Sport Day, with events taking place in all 50 U.S. states. Originally chartered by the U.S. Congress in 1986, the day was set aside to remember Olympic volleyball player Flo Hyman for her athletic achievements and her work to ensure equality for women's sports and encourage female participation in sports and fitness.
