ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF men's tennis head coach Bobby Cashman announced on Wednesday that transfer Nikolas Overkemping has enrolled at UCF. Overkemping, a graduate of Valdosta State, has joined the team and will play for the Knights this spring.
The 6-foot-7 student-athlete graduated from Valdosta State in May of 2007 with a degree in management. Overkemping is now enrolled in the DeVos Sport Business Management Program.
While at Valdosta State, Overkemping won a pair of regional championships in doubles.
Overkemping helped Valdosta State defeat Lynn to bring home its first NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championship in 2006. The following year, Overkemping posted an 8-1 record in singles and finished with a 10-4 mark in doubles to guide his team back to the championship.
Overkemping was born in Bonn, Germany, where he lived and played tennis until his final semester of high school at Carl-von-Ossietzky Gymnasium. He spent his final semester of high school in the U.S. at Tampa Preparatory High School as a foreign exchange student.
UCF finished the 2007 season at 12-12, with a 9-3 mark at the UCF Tennis Complex. The Knights were ranked 62nd by the ITA during the season, their highest mark since 2003.
The Knights start their spring season in Tampa at the USF Invitational. Auburn, William & Mary and USF will be the other three teams competing in the tournament.
