P.J. Gaynor Inks NLI with UCF Men's Basketball

Nov. 14, 2007

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF men's basketball head coach Kirk Speraw announced on Wednesday that P.J. Gaynor of Jacksonville has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Knights next fall. Gaynor is a forward from Mandarin High School.

As a junior in 2006-07, Gaynor was named to the Florida Class 6A All-State Second Team after averaging 14.6 points and 9.6 rebounds. A first-team all-area and All-Gateway Conference selection, he helped Mandarin to a 20-10 record last year. Gaynor is listed at 6-foot-8 and 190 pounds.

"P.J. is a skilled player who will be a great addition to our program," said Speraw. "He can play with his back the basket and can also step out and knock down shots. P.J. is a great young man and we are looking forward to him joining our basketball family."

The Knights went 22-9 last season and finished second in only their second campaign in C-USA. Dating back to the start of the 2002-03 season, UCF has won 107 contests, which ranks 31st nationally. During that span, Speraw's teams have made two trips to the NCAA Tournament.

The program is in its first year playing inside the new UCF Arena on campus. The 10,000-seat facility features several top amenities, including luxury suites and a state-of-the-art scoreboard with four video screens.

UCF claimed its inaugural game in the facility last Sunday, posting a 63-60 win over national power Nevada. The Knights will return to action on Friday, hosting Norfolk State at 7 p.m.
