Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF women's golf team will travel north to Wisconsin this weekend for its season-opening tournament at the Badger Invitational. The Knights will join host Wisconsin in the 12-team field vying for the team championship at the Par 72, 6,175-yard University Ridge Golf Course.
"I know the team is really excited to get the season started," UCF head coach Emilee Klein said. "They have been practicing hard in the preseason and we are really playing well right now. There are some good teams in the field and it will be a good season-opening tournament for our team."
Among the other schools scheduled to compete in the invitational are Drake, Georgetown, Illinois State, Iowa State, Minnesota, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma, Samford, SMU and Xavier are scheduled for the invitational. The tournament is slated for Sept. 9-10 with 36 holes to be played on Sunday followed by Monday's 18-hole final round.
The Knights' line-up will feature junior Stephanie Connelly (Pasadena, Md.) and sophomore Sara Hurwitch (Potomac Falls, Va.) along with a trio of true freshman who will be making their UCF debuts. That threesome of newcomers includes Liz Alger (Tequesta, Fla.), Katie Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn.) and Jessy Tang (Orlando, Fla.).
Hurwitch is the reigning C-USA Freshman of the Year and she earned All-C-USA second team honors in 2006. Connelly, who joined the Knights mid-year was named to the All-C-USA third team.
