ORLANDO, Fla. (www.UCFAthletics.com) - UCF freshman LaKendra Thames (Winter Garden, Fla./West Orange HS) will face some of the best junior athletes in the nation when she competes in 2007 Finish Line USA Junior Track and Field Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. on Friday, June 22.

Thames qualified for the event in the discus after recording a throw of 160-feet, three inches (48.84 meters) at the Miami Elite Invitational on April 14.The mark broke the previous school record of 153-8, which was set by former UCF standout Tiffany Roebuck in 2004.

A four-year letterwinner as a member of the West Orange High School track and field team, Thames won the state title in the discus as a junior. She still owns the WOHS records in the shot put and the discus.

The 2007 Finish Line USA Junior Track and Field Championships take place from Wednesday, June 20 through Sunday, June 24 at the IU Michael A. Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium.
