May 25, 2007

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (www.UCFAthletics.com) - Junior Victoria Chin (Orlando, Fla./Oak Ridge HS) finished among the top 20 in the 400-meter hurdles as the UCF track and field team opened competition at the NCAA East Regional on Friday evening.

Chin took 17th in the field of 27 runners with a time of 1:00.85, which didn't qualify her for the event finals. At the Conference USA Championships on May 12, she went a personal best 59.60 for second place. That effort earned her all-conference honors and also ranks second all-time at UCF.

Freshman LaKendra Thames (Winter Garden, Fla./West Orange HS) competes in the discus on Saturday. The top five finishers in each individual event automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships, which take place June 6-9 in Sacramento, Calif.
