Oneonta, Ala. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Sara Hurwitch (Potomac Falls, Va./Dominion) was named the Conference USA women's golf Freshman of the Year after league officials announced the yearly individual awards and the members of the three all-league teams on Wednesday following the league championship in Oneonta, Ala.
Hurwitch was named to the All-Conference USA second team, while teammate Stephanie Connelly (Pasadena, Md./The Pendleton School) was named to the third team.
"It is a big honor for both of those girls," head coach Emilee Klein said. "I'm really proud of them. They played well through the course of the year and these awards will keep them moving forward. It shows that we're a team that has some good young talent on it."
Hurwitch turned in a pair of top 10 finishes during her rookie campaign as she tied for sixth at both the Lady Pirate Invitational in October and the Ryder/Florida Women's Collegiate Championship earlier this month. Hurwitch shared C-USA Golfer of the Week honors following her play at the Lady Pirate Invitational after she posted a three-day total of 220 (+4), which was the lowest of the season by a Knight.
Connelly came on strong towards the end of the year after transferring mid-year from Ohio State. She placed fifth at the Ryder/Florida Women's Collegiate Championship and fourth at the C-USA Championship earning all-tournament honors at both events. Connelly posted a 71 (-1) in today's final round of the league event. Her one-under total was the best by a Knight this season.
