REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. (www.UCFAthletics.com) - The No. 5-ranked lightweight eight earned a win over No. 13 Loyola Marymount and the No. 12 varsity eight dropped its first race of the spring season as the UCF women's rowing team concluded competition at the Windermere Real Estate Classic on Sunday.
The Knights lightweight boat, which consisted of coxswain Tori Ryan, Lauren Schueler, Taylor Wiatt, Megan Mitchell, Celeste Brown, Morgan Bell, Kathleen Noble, Jana Read and Michelle Carter, finished a full 10 seconds ahead of LMU with a time of 7:38.45.
After falling behind in the first 500 meters of its race against No. 19 Washington, the varsity eight boat took over the lead with 1,000 meters to go before the Huskies earned the victory with a time of 6:43:53. UCF clocked in at 6:47.98. It was the varsity eight's first loss this spring as the Knights had claimed seven consecutive wins.
UCF's second varsity eight and varsity four both dropped races to Washington.
