Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com)- The UCF women's golf team will travel to Miami Lakes, Fla., to compete in the 37th Annual Ryder/Florida Women's Collegiate Golf Championship this weekend. The Florida State Championship will be hosted by the University of Miami and it will feature a 12-team field all comprised of squads from the Sunshine State.
The three-day tournament will be played at Don Shula's Golf Club and Resort and the opening round is set to begin, Friday at 8 a.m. The second and third rounds will follow on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. UCF finished seventh in this event a year ago.
Head coach Emilee Klein's line-up for the 54-hole event will feature three freshmen and a pair of sophomores. One of those sophomores, Stephanie Connelly (Pasadena, Md./The Pendleton School) will play at the No. 1 spot for the Knights. Freshman Victoria Tomko (Lontzen, Belgium/Bradenton Academy) will play at No. 2.
Freshman Sara Hurwitch (Potomac Falls, Va./Dominion), who leads the Knights with a stroke average of 77.00, is playing in the No. 3 position. Sophomore Mayule Tomimbang (Kissimmee, Fla./Gateway) will occupy the No. 4 spot and freshman Leigh Crosby (Athens, Ga./Oconee, Ga.) is playing at the No. 5 spot.
Besides the Knights and the host Hurricanes, the field includes: USF, FIU, FAU, Rollins College, Jacksonville, Bethune-Cookman, Stetson, Barry, Florida Southern and Lynn University.
The next tournament for UCF will be the Conference USA Championship in Birmingham, Ala., which will be held April 23-25.
