Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Junior Annabel Silk (West Meon, England/Millfield) equaled her career-low round at UCF with an even-par 72 on Friday at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic where the Golden Knights turned in a 310 (+22) to sit in 12th-place in the team standings after round one.
TCU leads the 16-team field at the Coco Beach Golf and Country Club in San Juan, Puerto Rico by three strokes over Oklahoma State and Auburn. The Horned Frogs registered a 289 (+1) thanks in large part to Valentine Derrey, who turned in a five-under 67.
The event is the spring opener for the Golden Knights and also Silk's first time in the line-up this season. She made the most of the opportunity as she turned in the second even-par round of her career to tie four others for the fifth best round of the day.
Newcomer Stephanie Connelly (Pasadena, Md./Ohio State) carded a three-over 75 in her debut for the Golden Knights. She and Silk each had two birdies in their respective rounds.
Freshman Victoria Tomko (Lontzen, Belgium/Bradenton Academy) carded an 81 (+9), while seniors Kristy McGlaughlin (Wasage Beach, Ontario/Collingwood Collegiate Institute) and Lauren Motyl (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) posted scores of 82 (+10) and 84 (+12), respectively.
