Women's Track and Field Performs Well in Indoor Debut

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF women's track and field team posted impressive marks in several events in the Golden Knights' indoor debut at the UF Intercollegiate on Saturday.

A pair of Golden Knights opened the meet with strong efforts in the weight throw. Freshman LaKendra Thames (Winter Garden, Fla./West Orange HS) finished seventh with a toss of 47-feet, 6.50 inches, which ranks third all-time at UCF. In 10th place, junior Virginia Traynor (Miami, Fla./Westminster Christian HS) posted a personal-best mark of 45-8.

Later in the day, Traynor took eighth in the shot put at 42-0, while freshman Jessica Francis (Orlando, Fla./Boone HS) was 11th at 41-3.

Elsewhere in the field events, sophomore Dione Thomas (Jacksonville, Fla./Raines HS) earned sixth place in the triple jump with a leap of 38-7.75 and sophomore transfer Ricki Sullivan (Santa Cruz, Calif./Harbor HS) followed in eighth place at 37-3.

On the track, sophomore Jamie Rzepecki (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora HS) ran to a sixth place showing in the 3,000-meter with a time of 10:41.46, while junior Allison Palmer (Oviedo HS) took eighth in a personal-best of 10:48.27. Senior Karen Kozub (Alden, N.Y./Alden HS) was ninth in the mile.

UCF finished the meet in the 4x400m, where the team of senior Jenny Rogan, junior Victoria Chin and sophomores Olinka Crusoe and Sadé Nero took fourth in a time of 3:57.94.

The Golden Knights continue their season at the Gladstein Invitational in Bloomington, Ind. on Friday, Jan. 26 and at the Diet Pepsi Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 27.
