Dec. 20, 2006
Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - With the holiday break in full swing, the UCF baseball team received some promising academic news Wednesday. A total of 18 Golden Knights, more than half of the 34-man roster, concluded the fall semester with a grade-point average of 3.0 or better.
"This is a credit to the players themselves, as well as (academic advisor) Jennifer Alger and Academic Services for Student-Athletes," said assistant coach Craig Cozart. "That's what we are looking for, players that achieve excellence in the classroom and on the baseball field. This team set certain goals for themselves on and off the field, and they have worked very hard to achieve them."
Seniors Brian Brooks (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo) and Matt Horwath (Lake Mary, Fla./Lake Mary) both finished the 2006 fall semester with a GPA over 3.0, while five Golden Knight newcomers completed their first semesters on the UCF campus with at least a 3.0 as well.
UCF returns to the classroom Jan. 8, and takes the field for the first time in 2007 at home against Florida International, Feb. 3 at 1 p.m. For the latest news and information on the Golden Knights, tickets or apparel log on to www.ucfathletics.com - the official site for UCF athletics.
