Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF rowing team will travel to Charlottesville, Va., Sunday for the final regatta on the short fall schedule. The Rivanna Romp, which is hosted by the University of Virginia, will consist of 11 teams including: Clemson, Duke, Georgetown, Miami, Minnesota, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, UCF, host Virginia and Wisconsin.
The Golden Knights will have eight boats enter the water on Sunday morning for competition including the varsity four squads which are entering their first weekend of racing. Even though it is the first time the four person boats are hitting the water, the rowers who will be competing already have experienced racing the eight person boats this fall. UCF will have three boats entered in to the championship women's eight race, three boats in the women's varsity four race, one boat in the pair's race and one boat in the doubles race.
Varsity eight and four races ill begin at 9 a.m., while the small boats will start around 11 a.m.
This weekend's races will be hosted at the Rivanna Reservoir which is located on the Rivanna River. The course is 4,000 meters and will be a good test for the rowers in the final event of the fall season.
UCF is looking for strong results Sunday in its first appearance on the Rivanna Romp. Last weekend the Golden Knights' top three boats were able to take home third, 10th and 19th in the championship varsity eight races in Chattanooga, Tenn., at the Head of the Hooch.
