Irving, Texas (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF freshman Sara Hurwitch (Potomac Falls, Va./Dominion) was named the Conference USA Co-Female Golfer of the Week, league officials announced Wednesday. Hurwitch is the first Golden Knight to earn the award this season after she helped lead the team to a tie for fourth at the Lady Pirate Invitational last weekend in Greenville, N.C.
Hurwitch shared the honor with East Carolina's Abby Bools as the duo tied for sixth at the Lady Pirate Invitational with respective scores of 220 (+4). Hurwitch turned in back-to-back, one-over par 73's in the second and third rounds to post her low scores of the season. It was the first top 10 finish of her young career and helped UCF secure its highest team finish of the season.
UAB sophomore Zack Sucher was named the C-USA Male Golfer of the Week after earning medalist honors and leading the Blazers to the team title at the Barona Collegiate Cup.
The UCF women's golf team returns to the course one final time in the fall when it travels to Alabama for the Auburn Derby Oct. 27-29. For the latest news and information on the Golden Knights, tickets or apparel log on to www.ucfathletics.com - the official site for UCF athletics.
