Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational - Day Two Quotes
Out on the course during the second round.
Georgia State Head Coach Matt Clark
On playing in the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational for the first time...
"This is an amazing event. From the time we arrived and being at Disney World because some of the guys haven't seen that, and then to this facility, it's all pretty special. The golf course is extremely tough and a great challenge. The best team and individual will win this week and that's exciting when you have a course that really separates people. But everything here is amazing and a little overwhelming. To the clubhouse, to the course, to the way we've been treated and the gifts that have been given to the players, our players were all very excited. We are very happy Central Florida invited us and we are trying to compete the best we can."
On improving from the first round to the second round...
"We had to address the putting situation. This is a difference for us coming from bent to Bermuda, and we had a lot of guys that were disappointed because they played really well yesterday but didn't make any putts. Today we showed up and the flags were flapping as hard as they could, so we tried to hang in there today."
Georgia Tech's Roberto Castro
On his thoughts of the course and his play during the second round...
"I love the course. This is my third year here I've played well the last two years. I played good yesterday but was a little unlucky as I had two three putts. Today I made some putts and had a couple good breaks. I also hit it really well and had some birdie chances on almost every single hole."
If there have been any surprises on the course during the tournament...
"Not really, but I'm driving it well which is kind of the key out here when it's over 7,500 yards. You have to hit the driver long and straight. Last year the wind howled about 30 mph and it looked like it might do that starting out this morning but it subsided as the day went on. Everyone has been in birdie mode, though, for the most part without the wind being there."
Oklahoma State Head Coach Mike McGraw
On OSU's run at winning the tournament and knock off defending champion Georgia...
"I don't know about dethroning Georgia, we are just trying to play as well as we can. We aren't too concerned with other teams."
On the conditions being more pleasant today than the extreme heat during round one...
"I actually like it when it's a little tougher than this. I'd like to see some wind and cooler temperatures. It doesn't mean we will play well, it just tells you a lot about your players. I love the cool weather."
If the team's attitude changed between last year and this year...
"Our mindset was pretty much the same. We just wanted to come down here and compete as well as we can, especially with two new freshmen in the lineup. It's important for them to play well. The most important thing, I thought, was to see how the freshmen would handle it out there."
On the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational...
"It's probably becoming the best golf tournament that we play at. We get treated very, very well. The golf course is in fabulous condition and it's great when they can assemble a great field like this. It's got all the ingredients to be the best golf tournament. There's an argument for that for sure."
Georgia's Brian Harman
On his play during the second round...
"I played really well. I switched irons this week because I hit them well and I thought they were a bit better. I'm putting good but just not making much. I'm just trying to stay patient out there."
If there are any differences from a year ago...
"The golf course is playing about the same, but the rough is a lot harder, especially around the greens. But it's a great golf course and a great tournament. I look forward to coming back here every year."
