Golden Knights to Face East Carolina on Friday

Oct. 12, 2006

ORLANDO - The UCF women's soccer team heads out-of-state to face Conference USA foe East Carolina on Friday at 4 p.m. in Greenville, N.C. The Golden Knights (7-5-1, 3-1-0 C-USA) will look to improve upon their unbeaten road record (2-0-0) in league play against the Pirates (6-5-2, 1-1-1).

In UCF's 2-0 win against league opponent UAB on Sunday at the UCF Soccer Complex, junior goalkeeper Jennifer Manis (Pensacola, Fla./Washington HS) recorded her fourth shutout on the season. Sophomore Hanna Wilde (Westlake, Ohio/Westlake HS) scored the first goal of the match, her fourth on the season. Senior Roberta Pelarigo (Sao Paulo, Brazil) later chipped in the second goal of the match.

UCF has won four of its last five games, earning three conference victories during that stretch. The squad has outscored its opponents 11-4 in those five matches. Making goals a premium to come by for opponents, Manis has posted a 1.13 GAA in her 13 starts this season.

East Carolina has experienced a share of good play from all of its players. The Pirates have 10 players with at least one goal and five of those players have two goals or more. The squad has been led by sophomore goalkeeper Amber Campbell who holds a .076 GAA, good for third-best in the conference.

UCF is 1-0-1 all-time against East Carolina. The last time the two teams met was in Orlando in 2005 and the Golden Knights won, 3-1.

The Golden Knights continue their road trip when they travel to Marshall on Sunday, Oct. 15 at noon. The team returns home on Friday, Oct. 27 for a nationally-televised tilt on CSTV against SMU.
