GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Playing against a nationally-ranked team for the first time since the 2004 season, UCF dropped a 42-0 contest at No. 7 Florida on Saturday at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. The Golden Knights fall to 1-1 with the loss, while the Gators improved to 2-0.

The Gators registered 637 yards of total offense, compared to 153 for the Golden Knights. Florida quarterback Chris Leak threw for a career-high 352 yards and four touchdowns in the victory, while freshman receiver Percy Harvin led 11 different Gator receivers with four catches and 99 yards.

The Gators had 398 yards of total offense in the first half and found the end zone five times. Leak tossed three of his scoring strikes before intermission and his 25-yarder to Andre Caldwell with four seconds left before the break gave the hosts a 34-0 advantage at halftime.

The contest was played in front of 90,210 fans, the third-largest crowd to watch a UCF game. UCF did not turn the ball over, while forcing the Gators into four turnovers. Sophomore safety Sha'reff Rashad (Jacksonville, Fla./Epsicopal) had his second interception of the season and also forced a fumble. Freshman Travis Timmons (Gainesville, Fla./Bucholz) also had an interception.

Senior defensive end Kareem Reid (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs) and junior defensive tackle Rex Hill (Marathon, Fla./Marathon) each recovered a fumble for the Golden Knights.

The UCF offense could not capitalize on the four miscues and finished the night with six three-and-outs. Senior Steven Moffett (Winter Park, Fla./Winter Park) went 14-of-32 for 100 yards. Classmate Mike Walker (Orlando, Fla./Edgewater) led the club with six catches for 33 yards. Senior Kenny Jackson (Lehigh, Fla./Bakersfield C.C.) had a career-highs in both receptions (5) and receiving yards (47).

The two teams were meeting for just the second time with the previous match-up in Gainesville in 1999. UCF returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 16, hosting cross-state foe USF. Kickoff at the Florida Citrus Bowl is set for 2:30 p.m. The contest will be televised live nationally on CSTV.
