Women's Soccer Earns Exhibition Win over USF

ORLANDO - Goals from senior Roberta Pelarigo and freshman Becca Thomas gave the UCF women's soccer team a 2-0 victory over in-state rival USF in exhibition play on Friday night at the UCF Soccer Complex.

The team's leading scorer from a year ago, Pelarigo beat Bulls senior goalkeeper Casey Garrett far side in the 17th minute when she connected off a lofty serve from midfield by sophomore Lydia Jones.

Thomas put the Golden Knights up 2-0 on a curving shot from 20 yards in the 52nd minute.

UCF junior goalkeeper Jennifer Manis made two saves in the shutout. Garrett stopped three shots before being replaced by freshman Mallori Lofton-Malachi with 17 minutes to play. Lofton-Malachi made no saves.

The Golden Knights play their final exhibition match against Florida on Sunday at the UCF Soccer Complex at 4 p.m. before making their regular season debut at Miami on Aug. 25 at 7 p.m.
