Rein Called to U.S. Under-20 Men's National Team

July 17, 2006

ORLANDO - UCF men's soccer standout Marcus Rein was recently called to represent the United States as a member of the Under-20 National Team. The sophomore goalkeeper helped the U.S. earn a 1-1 tie with Canada on July 9.

Rein transferred to UCF from Wake Forest following the 2005 season and played with the Golden Knights during the spring when he split goalkeeping duties with junior Brian Pope. He previously trained with the Under-16 and Under-17 National Teams prior to joining the residency program at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

"To have Marcus gain further experience with the national team program is a great honor for him as an individual and for our program as a whole," said UCF head coach Brent Erwin. "Marcus is a tremendous student-athlete because he not only strives to be the best on the field but also in the classroom. We are very proud of his accomplishment."

Rein becomes only the second player in program history to play with the U.S. National Team, joining former UCF midfielder Eric Vasquez, who played for the Under-20 squad in the spring of 2001. Vasquez is currently a member of Major League Soccer's Columbus Crew.
