Six Baseball Players Named FCSL All-Stars

July 14, 2006

ORLANDO - UCF baseball had six players selected to the Florida Collegiate Summer League All-Star game to be held Sunday, July 16 at Historic Sanford Memorial Stadium at 6 p.m. The Florida Collegiate Summer League is a wooden bat league, which fields six teams in Central Florida, giving players from the greater Orlando area a chance to play highly competitive baseball close to home.

Jaager Good was named the East All-Star team, while Eric Kallstrom, Kiko Vazquez, Ryan Williams, Brett Bordwine and Mitch Herold were named to the West All-Star squad.

Good, a rising junior, has fortified the bullpen of the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs. In seven appearances as the team's closer, Good has thrown 12.0 innings, all in relief, allowing just four hits, two earned runs and has struck out 15 batters. He has notched two saves and produced a sparkling 1.50 ERA.

In the West, Kallstrom has played regularly at shortstop for the Orlando Shockers and is second on the team with four doubles, five walks and nine runs batted in. Kallstrom, a rising sophomore, has excelled in putting the ball in play with the wooden bat, going down on strikes only four times in 51 at-bats.

Kallstrom is paired up on the left side of the infield with Williams, also a rising sophomore. He has been a tremendous asset in the field for the Shockers, having committed only two errors in 44 chances. Williams is also second on the Shockers with 16 hits.

Vazquez, who is entering his sophomore year with the Golden Knights, has anchored first base for the league-leading Altamonte Springs Snappers and has been an offensive force in the middle of the lineup. Vazquez is batting .342 and ranks second in the league with 25 hits. He has smashed six doubles and scored 13 runs.

Bordwine has seen double-duty on the hill and in the outfield for the Snappers. When toeing the rubber, the rising senior is 1-0 with a 2.50 ERA in four appearances, including three starts. In 18 innings of work, Bordwine has struck out 24 batters, allowed 14 hits, while opponents are batting .209 against the Melbourne native. At the plate, Bordwine has drawn three walks and managed one hit in six at bats.

Herold has fanned 21 batters in 11.2 innings of work for the Shockers. In three appearances, Herold has twice been a tough-luck loser despite a perfect 0.00 ERA. Herold, a rising sophomore, has yielded only four hits and six unearned runs while also picking up a save.
