Sarff, Pauls Named CRCA All-Region

May 22, 2006

ORLANDO - A pair of UCF rowers were recognized when the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced its 2006 all-region teams on Monday. Junior Krystina Sarff earned a spot on the South Region first team and sophomore Caitlin Pauls was named to the second team.

Pauls and Sarff are both key performers for UCF's varsity eight boat. The duo helped the Golden Knights earn the first national ranking in school history on April 19 when UCF entered the USRowing/CRCA Varsity Eight Poll at No. 20. The pair had the opportunity to race in one of the nation's top regattas in early May when UCF competed at the Windermere Cup in Seattle, Wash.

The awards recognize the outstanding performances of rowers from each of the five Division I regions, organized into first and second-team selections. A year ago, two Golden Knights were honored on the all-region team.

Both Pauls and Sarff were named CRCA National Scholar-Athletes earlier today. UCF had six selections, the most in the nation from a single school.

This summer, Sarff will attend the USRowing Under-23 National Team Selection Camp in Berkley, Calif. She will be seeking a spot on the United States squad that will compete at the Under-23 World Championships in Belgium in July.
