Three Golden Knights Sign Free Agent NFL Contracts

ORLANDO - UCF defensive end Paul Carrington, tight end Darcy Johnson and place-kicker Matt Prater signed free agent contracts with NFL teams Monday. Carrington inked a free agent contract with the Atlanta Falcons while Johnson signed a deal with the New York Giants and Prater signed with the Detroit Lions.

Carrington, a native of Georgia, was named UCF's most outstanding defensive lineman following the season. He was a first-team all-Conference USA on defense and led UCF with 12.5 tackles for loss and nine sacks. He tied for the conference lead in sacks and was named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week after three tackles for loss and two sacks in the victory over Marshall. He finished his career with 16 sacks and 30.5 tackles for loss (10th in school history).

Johnson was a three-year starter at tight end for the Golden Knights. The Palatka, Fla., product finished his career with 81 receptions for 919 yards, including six touchdowns. He appeared in 48 games over his four-year career.

Prater finished his career as one of the school's all-time leaders in field goals and scoring. Prater is tied for first in school history with 50 field goals and is fourth all-time in scoring with 258 points. He made 50 of 74 field goal attempts over his four-year career, including a long of 53 yards. The Estero, Fla., native was a four-year starter for the Golden Knights and played in 46 games.

In addition to the three free agent signings, UCF wide receiver Brandon Marshall was selected in the fourth round by the Denver Broncos in the 2006 NFL Draft Sunday afternoon. The Broncos drafted Marshall with the 119th pick in the draft.
