ORLANDO - A goal by freshman Jake Howard in the waning minutes of regulation gave the UCF men's soccer team a 1-1 tie with visiting Cincinnati in an exhibition game on Saturday at the UCF Soccer Complex.
The Bear Cats struck first in the opening five minutes of the match, but the Golden Knights continued to earn their own scoring chances. One such opportunity came in the 54th minute when senior Billy Judino set up freshman Tyler Davis directly in front of the Cincinnati goalkeeper, who made the save.
UCF would tie the contest with just five minutes remaining in regulation as Howard scored with an assist to Judino.
Junior Brian Pope played the full game in goal for the Golden Knights, making several saves on breakaways.
"It was another good test against a solid BIG EAST team," said UCF head coach Brent Erwin. "In the first half, we played flat and couldn't establish effective possession. We were better in the second half, controlling the ball and becoming very dangerous going forward. If our finishing had been sharper, we would have scored more goals."
The Golden Knights caps off their spring season against 2005 NCAA College Cup Finalist New Mexico on March 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the UCF Soccer Complex. Admission is free to all fans.
