Softball Drops Two on Final Day of Fresno State Bulldog Classic

FRESNO, Calif. - Cici Alvarez was 2-for-5 at the plate on the final day of the Fresno State Bulldog Classic as UCF fell 3-1 to No. 22 DePaul and 8-0 to No. 17 Washington. The Golden Knights fell to 13-14 on the season, while Blue Demons improved to 9-5 and the Huskies improved to 19-6.

Allison Kime was named to the Bulldog Classic All-Tournament Team after going 1-1 in the circle with a weekend ERA of 1.00 and a batting average of .400.

Game One:
In the top of the second, DePaul loaded the bases with no outs. Kime retired two batters on strikeouts then tagged out a runner attempting to steal to keep the game tied at zero apiece.

The Blue Demons scored two runs in the top of the third on two hits and two UCF errors.

DePaul added a third run in the fourth when Amber Patton hit an RBI single through the left side.

UCF's lone run came in the fifth inning on a Magon Paul RBI single up the middle, scoring Michelle Newton from third.

For the game, UCF had one run on five hits with five errors, while DePaul had three runs on eight hits with no errors.

Tracie Adix earned the win in the circle for the Blue Demons, pitching the complete game and giving up one run on five hits with six strikeouts. Kime was tagged with the loss the Golden Knights, pitching seven innings and giving up three runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts.

Game Two:
Washington took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly to right field by Sarah Hyatt.

The Huskies added two more runs in the second on a Dominique Lastrapes single up the middle, plating Caitlin Noble and Dena DePompa.

Dena Tyson gave Washington a 4-0 lead in the third when she scored on fielder's choice.

Aimee Minor hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth to give the Huskies an 8-0 lead.

Alvarez broke up Noble's no-hitter in the top of the seventh when she singled up the middle.

Washington won the game 8-0 on eight hits and one UCF error. Noble improved to 8-3 after giving up no runs on one hit with nine strikeouts. Paul was pegged with the loss after pitching less than an inning, giving up one run on two hits.

The Golden Knights return to Orlando Tuesday afternoon when the team makes their Conference USA debut against Tulsa. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 12:55 to open the new UCF Softball Stadium.
