Women's Golf Invitational set for Monday and Tuesday at Stoneybrook

Feb. 4, 2006

ORLANDO - The UCF women's golf team will get its first taste of competition for the spring semester Monday and Tuesday when play begins at the UCF Women's Golf Invitational at Stoneybrook Golf Club in east Orlando. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals will play 36 holes in search of honors at the eighth-annual event.

"We have a pretty good field assembled for this tournament and it will give us a good indication of where we stand this early in the year," said first-year UCF head coach Emilee Klein. "The girls have been working hard so far this semester and I'm anxious to see how that translates to the golf course in competition."

Tee times for Monday's first round start at 8 a.m. and run until 11:36. The same times are set for Tuesday's final round.

UCF has won this event three of the first seven years, most recently in 2002. The Golden Knights finished sixth in the team standings a year ago, while Lauren Motyl was UCF's highest finisher, tying for 12th.

UCF finished runner-up at the Stetson Invitational in the last event of the fall semester, while Motyl was second in the individual standings. That event marked Klein's debut as a college coach and came just weeks after she announced her retirement from the LPGA Tour. It was UCF's highest team finish in more than three years.
