ALTAMONTE SPRINGS - Breanne Javier was 2-for-4 with four RBI as Hofstra dropped UCF, 6-4, at Merrill Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla. Tuesday afternoon. The Pride improved to 5-1 on the season, while the Golden Knights fell to 6-5.

"The team did not come out ready to play this afternoon," said head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie. "We seemed to get a spark in the seventh inning, but it was not enough to pull the win out. Breanne had a strong showing at the plate, picking up all four RBI."

The Pride took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second on three hits and one error.

In the third inning, Hofstra added a third run when Tara Ulrich hit a home run over the fence in left center.

Javier brought UCF to within one in the fifth when she singled to center, scoring Allison Kime and Cici Alvarez.

On an Ashley Lane RBI double to right field, the Pride took a two-run lead in the top of the seventh. Ulrich followed Lane's double up with a two-run home run to give Hofstra a 6-2 lead.

UCF fought in the bottom of the seventh but ran out of outs. Javier hit a two-run single to right field scoring Alvarez and Kacie Feaster to make the final score 6-4 in favor of Hofstra.

Melissa Hodge earned the win for the Pride, while Amy Belonick picked up the save. Magon Paul was tagged with the loss after pitching seven innings and giving up six runs on 10 hits and two strikeouts.

The Golden Knights return to the softball diamond Friday, Feb. 24 when the team travels to DeLand, Fla. to participate in a second Stetson Tournament. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. against Western Michigan.
