Micah Byars Joins the UCF Staff

Nov. 3, 2005

ORLANDO - UCF men's basketball head coach Kirk Speraw announced Thursday that Micah Byars has joined the Golden Knights as an administrative assistant. Byars brings six years of experience in the college ranks to UCF, including two at the Division I level.

In the volunteer role with the Golden Knights, he will assist with scheduling, film editing and exchange and other administrative duties.

"We are very appreciative of Micah's willingness to become part of our program," said Speraw. "He is sacrificing to help our program and he is a great addition to our staff."

Byars comes to Orlando from Chipola College in Marianna, Fla., where he served as an assistant coach from 2003-05. With Byars on the staff, the Indians finished fourth in the nation last season and sixth in 2003-04. Byars worked directly with Chipola's post players while assisting with recruiting, scheduling and film exchange.

From 2001-03, he worked as an administrative assistant on the New Orleans men's basketball staff under head coach Monte Towe. Before New Orleans, Byars was an assistant for two seasons under Towe at Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, Fla.

The Gainesville native attended the University of Florida and spent two years (1994-95) as a defensive back on the Gators' football team.

He began his coaching career in Gainesville at P.K. Yonge High School in 1995. Byars spent time at the school as the freshman basketball head coach and also served as the junior varsity football head coach.
