UCF Basketball Signs Tony Davis to NLI

Nov. 9, 2005

ORLANDO - UCF men's basketball head coach Kirk Speraw announced on Wednesday that Tony Davis has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Golden Knights. Davis, a 6-foot-7 forward from Sarasota, Fla., will join the UCF program in the fall of 2006.

Davis is entering his senior season at Riverview High School. Following the 2004-05 campaign, he earned third-team All-State Class 6A honors after averaging 19 points and 11 rebounds per contest. Riverview finished the season with a 21-7 mark.

"Tony is a great young man with a world of potential as a basketball player," said Speraw. "He is versatile and can do many things on the court. Most importantly, he is excited about being a Golden Knight and we are looking forward to having him join our basketball family."

As a junior, Davis shot 73 percent from the free-throw line and shot 50 percent (30-of-60) from three-point range. He also totaled 65 assists, 60 steals and 45 blocks.

UCF opens the 2005-06 season on Nov. 18 at home against cross-town foe Rollins.

The Golden Knights have made two consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament and are entering their first campaign as a member of Conference USA. Dating back to the start of the 2001-02 season, UCF has won 70 games, a mark that ranks 23rd nationally and first in the state of Florida.
