COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Jennifer Montgomery and Roberta Pelarigo each scored two goals as UCF defeated Tulane, 4-0, Friday afternoon. The Golden Knights improved to 5-7 overall and 2-0 in C-USA, while the Green Wave fell to 0-5 on the season and 0-3 in league play.
"Having your two strikers score two goals each is big," said head coach Amanda Cromwell. "Julie Snaman saw action in the net for the first time this year combining with Beth Harless for the shutout. Picking up a win on the road, especially a conference win, was huge."
UCF jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 18:32 mark when Montgomery took a pass from Pelarigo. Seventy seconds later, Pelarigo gave the Golden Knights a 2-0 lead on a breakaway.
The two teams went into the intermission with UCF up, 2-0. The Golden Knights had 10 saves in the first half to the Green Wave's zero.
In the second half, Pelarigo recorded her second goal of the afternoon when a cross by a Tulane player was deflected.
Montgomery added the fourth and final goal four minutes later when Hanna Wilde took a shot on goal that was blocked by Tulane's Megan Morey. Montgomery was there to finish the shot off for the score.
On the afternoon, Pelargio had eight shots, two of which were shots on goal, two goals and one assist for a total of five points, while Montgomery had four shots, all shots on goal, and two goals for a total of four points.
Beth Harless and Julie Snaman split time in the net for the Golden Knights to pick up the third shutout of the season. Snaman recorded her first save of the season in the second half.
UCF ended the match with 16 shots to Tulane's one, while also holding the advantage in corner kicks, 4-2.
The Golden Knights return to the turf Sunday afternoon when the team takes on UTEP at 3 p.m. The squad returns home on Friday, Oct. 14 when Eastern Carolina comes to town for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
