BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Roberta Pelarigo scored the winning goal as UCF defeated UAB, 2-1, in overtime. The Golden Knights improved to 9-9 on the season and 6-1 in Conference USA, while the Blazers fell to 8-7-1 and 4-2-1 in C-USA.

"This win was big with points," said head coach Amanda Cromwell. "It will be interesting to see what happens today around the league. We have huge games coming up with Rice and Houston, so nothing is settled yet by any means. We gave ourselves a better shot at winning conference."

Pelarigo paced UCF in shots with eight, while Michelle DeCespedes and Hanna Wilde were second with three.

UCF outshot (22-17) UAB, while also leading in the corner kicks, 4-3. Snaman had four saves on the afternoon for UCF, while her counterpart, Katie Forbis, had six.

Shannon Wing scored her third goal of the season in the sixth minute of the match when Wilde sent a shot toward the goal that was misplayed by the goalkeeper.

With five minutes to play in the first half, UAB's Nadine Liverpool tied the game up at one apiece when she sent the ball to the left corner of the net.

At the end of the first half, the Golden Knights had outshot the Blazers, 12-8, while also holding a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.

In the 64th minute of play, UAB threatened to go ahead, 2-1, only to have Kate McCain make a diving save in front of the net to preserve the tie.

UCF and UAB battled to a 1-1 tie to end regulation. The Blazers outshot the Golden Knights, 9-7, but UCF held the overall advantage in shots (19-17).

Pelarigo scored the winning goal in the 96th minute of the match after Kristin Bilby.

The Golden Knights return to the field Friday, Oct. 28 for day one of Senior Weekend when Rice comes to town. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
