Memphis at UCF Post Game Quotes
October 8, 2005
Florida Citrus Bowl
Orlando, Fla.
UCF Head Coach George O'Leary
Opening Remarks:
"I think this was a good total team win. I thought offensively we controlled the clock and controlled the time of possession. We went out and did what we had to do at the line of scrimmage. We rolled a lot of running backs in there. We threw for very efficient, productive plays. I thought offensively we got the job done. Defensively, except for that one run where we had about three or four guys miss the play, I think we corralled the run. I thought it was a good team win against a good Memphis team. I am very happy for this team. I told the team that the combination of all this work is starting to pay off as far as you are starting to see some success not just in certain players, but also in certain positions. Great win for the kids, the coaches and the fans. Now we move on to the next game."
On controlling their defensive pressure:
"We went into a bunch of seven and eight man protections, and that is what their game is. Their game is a lot of big plays offensively and a lot of big plays defensively. I cut away all six man protections. I said we are going to block seven and block eight. We are going to get two guys out and we are going to make completions. I said we were going to run the ball and establish the run and not let the big play potential of their defense get involved."
"It is a good win. It puts us at two wins in the conference. I think we just have to keep moving from here. Our goal has been to win enough to get to a bowl game and that is what we are going to strive to do."
Memphis Head Coach Tommy West
Opening Remarks:
"I give a lot of credit to Central Florida. I thought they did a really good job and obviously they were ready to play. We have to grow up. We have a lot of injuries, we have a lot of excuses, but we have to grow up. I thought physically we got it handed pretty good to us tonight. That was the kind of game that we can't afford to get into. We have to step up a notch defensively and we have to stop the run. Right now we are not a football team that can play from behind."
