ORLANDO - Despite UCF's dominance on the field, a goal by senior Michael Todd gave Hofstra a 1-0 shutout of the Golden Knight men's soccer team in the final match of the UCF adidas Classic at the UCF Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon.
Six minutes into the match, the Pride (4-2) went up 1-0. Junior Arman Oscooli used a header to cross the ball to Todd, who scored low to the far side.
UCF (3-2) had its own opportunity to tie the match in the 15th minute. Hofstra keeper Matthias Gumbrecht came out of the net to stop UCF sophomore Adham Rashwan's original shot. Rashwan gathered the rebound for a second attempt, but it was cleared off the line by a Pride defender. Senior Billy Judino also took a shot that sailed wide of its mark.
After outshooting the visitors by a 7-3 margin in the first half, the Golden Knights continued to dominate in the second half. In the 68th minute, UCF freshman Tyler Davis hit the crossbar.
Overall, the Golden Knights had a 12-4 advantage in shots, while they also held an 8-0 margin in corner kicks.
Gumbrecht made four saves, while UCF senior goalkeeper Ryan McIntosh had one.
Meanwhile, Davidson (5-1-1) dominated in the first game of the day as the Wildcats shut down Jacksonville (3-3), 3-0, behind two goals by senior Tom Lavin. Sophomore Robby Hoak also contributed a goal and an assist to the win.
The Golden Knights return to action on Sept. 22 when they host Florida Atlantic at 7 p.m. at the UCF Soccer Complex.
