ORLANDO - UCF head women's rowing coach Leeanne Crain announced the hiring of Kim Cupini as assistant coach on Wednesday. Cupini's appointment is effective immediately.
Cupini comes to Orlando after two years in a similar position at the University of San Diego. As a member of the Toreros staff, she helped guide the training regime for the varsity, junior varsity and novice squads. She also coordinated the team's travel, developed alumni relations, aided in fundraising and assisted in recruiting student-athletes.
In addition to her duties with women's rowing, Cupini also served as an assistant in the USD Academic Support Program for two years.
Cupini graduated from USD, where she rowed under Crain's guidance from 2000-03. She was a three-time team MVP and two-time All-West Coast Conference and All-Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) honoree.
Prior to USD, Cupini spent a year at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, where she competed in both rowing and swimming.
"I am excited to have Kim on board. I had the privilege of coaching her in college and have watched her develop into one of the best young rowing coaches in the country," said Crain, who is entering her third year with the program. "She will be a great addition to our staff."
Cupini, a USRowing Level III Coach, holds a bachelor's degree in environmental studies from San Diego.
