May 4, 2005

ORLANDO - UCF senior Andreas Hoegberg and freshmen Giwon Suh and Ben Leong were lauded by the Atlantic Sun Conference Wednesday when the league announced its men's golf honors for 2005. Hoegberg earned first-team honors, while Suh and Leong were named to the all-freshmen team.

Hoegberg led UCF with a 72.89 stroke average on the year and posted one win and seven top 10 finishes in 12 events. He was named Golfer of the Week by Golf World and Golfweek magazines after winning the UCF/Rio Pinar Intercollegiate in February. He carded 13 sub-par rounds on the year, including eight rounds in the 60s. He is the 13th standout from UCF to earn all-conference honors in the A-Sun since 1994.

Suh played in 11 of the 12 tournaments during the season and had two top 20 finishes, including a tie for 8th at the Gary Koch Intercollegiate in Tampa. He carded five sub-par rounds, including a low round of 67.

Leong played his best golf at the end of the year, leading the team with a tie for second at the A-Sun Championships in Franklin, Tenn. two weeks ago. He played in a total of eight events on the year and had two top 20 finishes. UCF had previously placed a total of six golfers on all-freshmen teams, including Hoegberg in 2002.

The regular season is now over and UCF will find out about a possible bid to the NCAA Regional Golf Championships when the field is announced May 9.
